The 2027 theme: Tónlistin í bænum
The festival has named 2027 “Tónlistin í bænum” — music in the town. In its own words, it honours Ísafjörður as a music town: the history of music teaching in the town’s houses, and the character of the place. It is a fitting choice for a festival whose supporters include the Ísafjörður Music School and the Edinborg cultural centre.
What the week looks like
The 2027 artists will be announced by the festival, but its programme announcement already names the strands the week is built around:
- The Hamrar concert series — the festival’s main concerts.
- Morning Coffee concerts.
- “Við Barinn”, and Summer Jazz at Jómfrúin.
- An opening dinner at Tjöruhúsið, and a visit to Bryggjusauna with local hosts.
- An Exclusive Guest Pass, sold through Stubbur, at around $690 — see the festival for what it includes.
Courses for students and children
Alongside the concerts, Við Djúpið runs a summer course for music students and a music-games course for children. If you are coming as a student or bringing children, it is worth contacting the festival early — and for a family or a group of students, an apartment with a kitchen goes a lot further than hotel rooms.
Where to stay for Við Djúpið
Mid-June is the start of high summer in the Westfjords, and Ísafjörður fills early. Bolungarvík is 15 minutes away through the Bolungarvíkurgöng tunnel, on a paved road open year-round. Dúfan Apartments has four self-catering apartments there — full kitchens, 24-hour self check-in, free parking — and takes groups of up to 14 across the four, which suits musicians and students travelling together. In June the sun barely sets, so the drive back after an evening concert is in daylight. Booking direct is always our lowest price.
