Things to do
Bolafjall above the town, a black-sand beach one valley over, and Ísafjörður 15 minutes away. A quiet base, not a remote one.

The mountain rising above Bolungarvík, reached by a gravel road. Its viewing platform looks out over the Atlantic and, on clear nights, the midnight sun and Northern Lights.

The next creek over from Bolungarvík, reached by the same gravel road that leads up to Bolafjall. A hidden paradise with a black-sand beach and a river running to the sea — perfect for a sunny picnic or a romantic sunset.

An abandoned village in the Hornstrandir nature reserve, reachable by boat in summer — a hauntingly beautiful day trip into one of Iceland’s last true wildernesses.

Before you arrive
Dúfan is four self-catering apartments in Bolungarvík, a rustic fishing town at the outer edge of the Westfjords. This is not a polished resort village — it is a real working harbour, with mountains at the end of every street and the open Atlantic beyond. It also makes a calm, well-priced base for the whole Ísafjörður area: the regional hub of Ísafjörður — with its restaurants, swimming pool and supermarket — is just 15 minutes away through the Bolungarvíkurgöng tunnel, so you get a quiet home to yourself in the evenings and everything the fjords offer by day. The surroundings are breathtaking all year round.
